What is Rinolab?
Rinolab is a set of software tools that allows you to ingest data from any source in any format, interact with it, learn from it and enrich it to unlock insights and discoveries. Rinolab is owned by Rinocloud Ltd, a company registered in the Republic of Ireland. Its founders and investors are from Europe, the US and China. Its management team are scientists and engineers with experience in software, sensors, AI, optofluidic research, fintech, greentech, travel, healthcare – we’ve all lived with the pain of poor data management so we decided to build an end to end data management solution that works!

Can I try the service?
Yes. When you sign up to the service for the first time then you are automatically using the free starter plan which allows you to use all features of the service. In terms of functionality, this plan is only limited in the number of users you can add and the amount of storage you have access to. However even these are generous and if you manage the plan correctly, you should never have to pay unless you’re a heavy user with team members and lots of data to manage and analyse. And if that’s the case you should contact us.

What are the system requirements to use Rinolab?
For most users, the cloud version of Rinocloud is ideal. The cloud or SaaS is a method of software delivery that allows data to be accessed from any device with an Internet connection and web browser. With the cloud version of Rinolab, we host and maintain the servers, databases and code. We take care of everything.
-
Is My Data Safe?
The security and privacy of your data – personal, payment, and project – is very important to us. We run in an an enterprise-grade hosting environment. We employ industry-standard means to protect your data, and all plans include SSL encryption
-
How is my data protected?
In a number of ways. First all of your data is backed up – locally on your own machine and on our servers. Second, these back ups are synced – so as you add new data, it is automatically backed up and stored on your local machines and on our servers. Third, your data – if you choose – is encrypted using industry standard encryption.
-
Data processing and storage
We use premium industry standard storage, security and servers that are both secure and fault-tolerant. We are confident that this infrastructure provides you with the best possible security for your data.
-
Traffic between client and server
When you are logged into the platform, all data sent between the client (your browser) and our servers is transferred over a secure transport layer utilising a Secure Socket Layer (SSL). All communication between the native Windows or Mac clients are also over this same secure connection. This means that snooping on your data is never possible.
-
User authentication
Users are authenticated using their email address and a password. Passwords are chosen by users and must be at least six characters. No passwords are stored in plain text and we require that all authenticated traffic use HTTPS. Users may reset their password by providing their email address, through which they will receive an email with a token allowing them to choose a new password.
-
Where is my data stored?
Rinolab runs on dedicated private server infrastructure provided by Linode. This infrastructure, which includes servers, databases and file storage, is supported by data center locations around the world to provide fail overs and data redundancy in the event of regional outages.
-
How much storage do I get under the starter plan?
We’re allowing 2 GB of free storage.
-
Does Rinolab use artificial intelligence as part of its analysis suite.
Using algorithms that iteratively learn from data, Rinolab facilitates machine learning that in turn facilitates the unearthing of hidden insights, trends, anomalies, patterns in data without being explicitly programmed where to look. The machine learning tool box of data preparation, algorithms, scalability, ensemble modelling aswell as automation and iterative processes is only available in our enterprise suite.
-
Can I access ML in Rinolab if I’m only on the starter plan?
If you are generating data sets continuously and want to look for insights and patterns that may better help ‘train the machine’ which in turn will be of benefit the greater good, drop us a line explaining your requirements. If it meets our criteria, we will look at giving you access.
-
Can I use Rinolab in areas with poor internet connectivity?
Yes. As you collect data it will be stored locally and automatically synced when internet connectivity is available.
-
Can I transfer my account to a different email address?
The email address on a user account cannot be changed in the application. If you want to change the email address on an account, you must send a request to the support desk from the original email account. Please include the new email address in your request. Our staff will send a message to the new email address to confirm the change.
-
What should I do if I forget my password?
If you forget your passport you can use the ‘Lost your password’ link provided on https://www.rinodrive.com/login/. We suggest that when you create complex passwords you user some personal methods to remember the password in the future. Remember your data is valuable, so never write your password either in soft or hard copy where it can be copied or stolen.

-
How secure is may data as it’s transferred?
Data is transferred via a secure socket layer (SSL) between your client software installed on your laptop or lab computer and the secure data server. All data is transferred over an authenticated secure (https) connection. Only data from a defined working directory (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Rinolab\) is synchronised with the data server.
-
How do install Rinolab on my laptop?
There is an installation for both Windows and Apple’s Mac OS devices. The installation is a simple stepped process much like any windows or mac os installation. A key part of the installation is asking for the your authentication details to ensure a secure connection is established. Internet connectivity is required to complete the process. No synchronisation or data transfer takes place unless all security credentials are provided and validated. The clients are designed to run on system startup to ensure the working directories are always in sync. Only changes to data re synchronised over the secure connection so data transfer is efficient and network usage is minimised.
If we have deployed a privatye cloud version in your organisation, the IT Systems team will be required to install the desktop client applications on your project computer.
-
What security protocols are in place for the Server?
The Rinolab server is secure endpoint to which scientist desktop client applications communicate. The Rinolab server is designed to verify user authenticity at each synchronisation. The Rinolab server only accepts secure connections over secure socket layer (https) that have met all authentication rules.
-
How do you manage access control?
Rinolab employee access to the development, staging and production environments is maintained by a central directory and authentication is using strong passwords meeting complexity guidelines in combination SSH keys. The Rinolab internal policies require all employees accessing production environments to adhere to best practices. Any special access levels required is reviewed inline with a special access policy.
-
What is your policy for releasing upgrades?
A Change Management Policy has been defined by the Rinolab team to ensure all application changes have been reviewed and authorised prior to implementation and release into the production environment. All versions of the client and server are versioned and managed through a formal versioning process. All version changed are tracked inline with best practices.
All feature implementations are reviewed to ensure security guidelines are followed. The Rinolab security team maintains all server security elements (firewalls, security configurations) to ensure all are kept updated in line with industry standards.

Why do I have to copy and paste the server address again on my desktop Rinolab
This is to ensure that you have a private instance of the software on your desktop and that it links to your private and secure area in the Rinocloud hub. When you are logged into the platform, all data sent between the client (your browser) and our servers is transferred over a secure transport layer utilising a Secure Socket Layer (SSL). All communication between the native Windows or Mac clients are also over this same secure connection. This means that snooping on your data is never possible.
